The hard nosed boys of Big Wrench rolled into the Chesapeake Open at the 13th seed and the 3rd seed in Pool C. We were 16 hardunkechuds strong and jonesin' to make a little noise in our second tournament of the 2013 season.
Our first game was against the 1 seed Heva Hevas, and we played with aplomb once we adjusted to their huck game. Player highlights included Tyler cutting like a hoss-daddy and Tang playing some radical horn-dog defense. It was a close one, with us breaking late to force 16-16 universe point. Unfortunately, after a few turns they were able to punch in the winning point. Tough bones -- these bad larrys needed to get back on the horse though. We came out a bit flat against Medicine Men, never really recovering our step and losing by a score of 15 - something.

Our final game of pool play was against the Old Northern ding dongs or something to that effect, and, while the sole purpose was to make Gene try to throw greatests, we also managed to score some real points and put this one away easily, not much to say.
Last up was the pre-quarters against The Night's Watch, a team we lost to at Boston Invite. The resounding attitude going into this game was "C'mon Laddies." It was quite the showdown, as many of the players have faced each other over the years, and also because we got to spike on Pudge. We went up 3-0 but the Nice Watch battled back. They had some athletic dudes, and the ol' BW-D-Line struggled to reign in those fellas.

Despite going down a break in the second half, we battled back on the heels of aggressive man defense and calmer offensive than we occasionally sometimes play. The Ni Swatch would not go down quietly, and pushed us to our athletic limits as the game neared the end. Universe point occurred again, and Tyler grabbed a huge deep D before Rickshaw hucked for the win. Game blouses.
Sunday we came out in Quarters against Garuda, and had trouble getting into a rhythm. Let's move on from this game, as we never did two things right in a row. In the 5th place bracket we reared our ugly heads against Medicine Men again. After trading for a humengously long time, we went up a break and never looked back. Our O-line was clickin' and the swagoo was stickin'. Also Rickshaw pooped for like 15 minutes during this game. Despite throwing away a chance to go up 14-12, we got the ball with the score 14-13 and scored. Like bosses. Then we lost on universe in the 5th place game to Lake Effect, like not bosses. Finished the weekend with maybe 5 healthy bodies, and about 11 dudes playing. Some successes, some things to work on. 13th seed to 6th finish is aight at this point. We'll just heff to wait and see what the series brings.
